What Instagram Removing Likes May Mean For Influencers

It is a numbers-driven game it always had been. It’s not how good your content is it how many people like you. No matter how many hashtags you use or joining engagements pods and groups via Telegram or Facebook you just can’t win on the likes game.

When I first heard of this I thought it wouldn’t work. I mean you are all aiming to get those likes. As a sense of approval that you are doing ok.A clap from an audience.

I have always struggled with Instagram a part of me is happy about this but another part won’t get to know how it really feels to get the like you know. Even though you will see the amounts of likes you get but you won’t get to show it off (YES I SAID IT WE ARE ALL VINE). Studies suggest this kind of instant feedback on content can boost people’s self-esteem but bring others down if they do not get as many likes.

”IT’LL BE HARDER FOR INFLUENCERS TO PROVE THEIR WORTH”

Yes, for the lazy influencers that brought likes and got into the influencer game via the back door. It won’t sit well with them. Social media managers and influencers will use their numbers as a way to book clients.

Depending on a platform that’s constantly changing and now its really going to be hard proving that you are worthy of that sponsored post. Most if not all depend on the platform for income.

How will you prove it? Your followers?

PR companies believe that your Reach and Impressions will be the most important to look out for. Now that is something that cant be brought. It will determine if they work with you or not. The change could also mean that influencer content will need to become higher quality. Not just re-posting and hoping things stick.

Here in Africa, I feel we will get it last just like most things. Instagram launched a trial in Canada in May and the new test is rolling out in Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, Italy, Japan, and Brazil.

“We want people to worry a little bit less about how many likes they’re getting on Instagram and spend a bit more time connecting with the people that they care about,” he explained at the time.”The statement by Instagram

In the end, this just shows you don’t own your followers or your account. The platform can change in any way and you won’t have a say in the matter. If safe to say the weather the trail is a success or not they will play any song and we just going the dance to it.

What do you think of this? Has it hit your country yet?
